Puma June, an “emerging Canadian artist you need to hear” (Exclaim!), is a Toronto-based multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, songwriter, and producer. With an eclectic array of influences from Stevie Wonder to Billie Eilish and everything in between, June’s music is a unique blend of pop, funk, hip-hop, and R&B - a genre-bending sound that is both nostalgic and distinctive to the listener. With a clear political point of view, Puma June's feminist-laced songwriting pushes unfiltered honesty and centres around regaining power in one's life, with a particular focus on women's/gender issues, familial trauma, and the battle of self-doubt as an artist.

At 6 years old, June began her musical journey on the violin, training classically in Suzuki method. She played in various orchestras in and around her hometown of Barrie, Ontario throughout her formative years, including Orillia Youth Symphony Orchestra and later Huronia Symphony Orchestra. As June began highschool, the self-taught guitarist, pianist, and vocalist expanded her musical endeavors and she was a part of various folk and indie-rock bands. This included a folk duo with her sister, "Shanti & Vale", backup vocalist for folk-rock band, "Hungry Lake", and backup vocalist and violinist in indie-rock band, "House Art". After highschool, June stepped away from music for a time and completed a nursing degree at university. When the pandemic hit in 2020, June, just having started work as a nurse in Toronto at the time, began to find her own sound for the first time in her musical career. "Puma June", was born. After recommitting to a life of music, June’s interest in production grew, and in 2022-2023 she completed Seneca College’s ‘Independent Music Production’ Program.

In 2023, while finishing her schooling, June released her debut single, “Lost Years”, which was followed by 4 more self-produced singles and music videos throughout 2023 and the start of 2024. June entered 2024 as a round 11 recipient of the RBCxMusic x The Prism Prize MVP Project Grant, which she used to make a music video for her single "My Body, My Problem", released June 2024. This is the first single off her upcoming debut EP, a home-recorded expression of vulnerability and strength. June has lots on the horizon for 2024, including being selected for SOCAN Foundation’s EquityXProduction Level II program, an initiative designed to help develop skills for women in music production, as well as one of RBCxMusic’s ‘First Up’ Artists for 2024, a prestigious artist development program and workshop series, powered by MusiCounts. Puma June is the embodiment of a self-made artist and is a rising voice in the Canadian pop/R&B scene.
